About Us

History of the Store
Before April of 1988 (and the local Wal-Mart came to Springhill, LA.) Kathy and Charles Strickland had an idea of having a small store to sell bait and tackle out of. After the first year Mom & Dad bought out a local guys reel repair business and continues to this day repairing all sorts of reels. Three years later, still renting a small building where they used to sell gasoline as well as minnows, crickets, some hunting items and people thinking that Ark-La Outdoors was owned by someone else other than my mom Kathy, they decided it was time to move on to a bigger building with a lot more room for people to browse and shop. Once the new building was built my Mom steadily raced to fill most of the pegged walls with as many fishing baits as she could, this included trips all the way to Dallas Texas. As the years passed and the store became known to many that lived around the town of Springhill and the Tiny town of Taylor (pop. 567 "And yes I said tiny"), people steadily started coming in and buying gear for their every day fishing and hunting.

In about the middle of summer 1997 or so when my sister Cari and I would get off the bus from school, we would sit around and wait until it was time to go home for the day. To us back then it was so boring around the store, ("Now I don't mean boring like no one was ever coming in or anything, more like there was nothing fun to ever do around the place") so my mom and I decided it was time to get the internet >:) and for that matter get a computer. Long story short, the business was still doing very well and now me and my sis could have something to do when we would come in from school.

Years later (I think around 1999/2000 and after I had graduated from High School) mom was on the internet and found bizland.com, a webspace providing site. I knew then that there was only one thing on her mind, (A website of our own). Through out the entire week, I started to build the Ark-La Outdoors website from scratch. That very year after about 3 years thinking about a machine that she saw in a magazine that could supply to fishermen minnows, worms and such mom was having trouble deciding weather or not to get one of them. Well those three years are up and she then decided it was time to get a Live Bait Machine. Now that we have the machine she still says and I quote "That Live Bait Machine is the best worker I've ever had, it works a full 24 hours a day and never complains!"

That's all I can think of now, Brandon.
